Entwined : Review
Azalea is trapped. Just when she should feel that everything is before her . . . beautiful gowns, dashing suitors, balls filled with dancing . . . it’s taken away. All of it.
The Keeper understands. He’s trapped, too, held for centuries within the walls of the palace. And so he extends an invitation.
Every night, Azalea and her eleven sisters may step through the enchanted passage in their room to dance in his silver forest.
But there is a cost.
The Keeper likes to keep things.
Azalea may not realize how tangled she is in his web until it is too late.

I absolutely loved Entwined! I loved the humor, and the lines such as “She wanted to give him toast. The sort that had melted butter and a bit of honey spread on top. It was a stupid thought, but there was something comforting about toast.” which manages to tell me exactly how Azalea is feeling, without saying just “she wanted to comfort him.” There is some beautiful imagery throughout the books, and I think it’s a fantastic retelling of the tale of The Twelve Dancing Princesses.
Entwined is a YA book that does the romance right for a change, and I love the slow build-up of emotions that happen for over a year before Azalea even catches up to her feelings. Alongside this, is Azalea’s family, who is perfect with their imperfections. As the eldest of 12 girls, Azalea is more Mother to the younger children then she is elder sister, but all the elder children are as such. Aside from the girls is their father, the King, who I completely adored for how rough he must have it.
Entwined has a slow start – much of the first half of the book is a build-up of emotions and emotions, but it plays perfectly when put in tandem with the action-filled latter half of the story. Entwined is a wonderfully rewritten fairy tale, with love, family, and the required dastardly villain all in perfect play.
